What e-Business is about:

 

We live in a fast changing world. Everyday thousands of different companies are starting their business and flourishing while some are drowning and collapsing. Since the first internet network and WorldWideWeb was launched, it has considerably changed our society, the way we live, how we experience our world and deeply modified our life habits. But also the way we work and do business.

 

For the past 20 years e-Business, and e-Commerce, have had a growing importance, becoming bigger every year and getting more and more important. Nowadays, not only do we shop online through the screen of our home computer, we also have the opportunity to shop while browsing on our mobile devices such as our tablets or using our smartphones where one can shop and compare prices while walking on the streets using 3G+/4G seeing the products in the actual shop. There is a digitalisation of our world.

 

To help us understand the key concepts of e-Business and e-Commerce we used the book "E-commerce 2014" by Kenneth C. Laudon and Caro Guercio Traver.

Chapter 1, page 10, is given the definition of e-Business as following: " e-business is the digital enabling of transactions and processes within a firm, involving information systems under the control of the firm", while e-commerce is defined as " the use of the Internet, the Web, and apps to transact business. More formally, digitally enabled commercial transactions between and among organizations and individuals."

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Thus as these are two different things, it remains important to be able to spot the differences between them.

 

This notion of value for e-commerce is of high importance as it is this precise point that determines whether or not a commercial act is fullfiled or not.

Nowadays the term "e" in e-commerce has became almost a pleonasm, as companies and corporate world are evolving into a dimension where this digital part can't be left out if one wants to accomplish business.

To realise how important is the digitalisation of our society, to understand why this "e" part shall never be forgotten, shall always be taken into account, and to understand the keyconcepts of e-commerce, these were, according to me, the purposes of the e-Business class.
